YOU ARE WELCOME HERE
ICLA is a member-created, member-supported, and member-led community. What it becomes — and how useful it is — depends on the people who choose to get involved. There are many ways to participate. You might join an existing group, help start a new one, or volunteer your time and experience on a Board committee. From 2026, the ICLA Board will be elected by Association members, and members will be able to nominate themselves. If you have energy, curiosity, or ideas you want to contribute, there is space for you here. We are actively seeking a broad, diverse, and inclusive membership, so that ICLA reflects the global reach of Clean Language and the many ways it is practised and taught. Rather than waiting to be invited, we encourage you to step in, join, and help shape an association that benefits us all.
WHY JOIN THE ICLA?
Clean Language is now practised around the world, across many fields and contexts. What has been missing is a shared home for the wider Clean community: a place to find one another, exchange learning, and build on collective experience. ICLA exists to provide that forum: a global space where people engaged with Clean Language can meet, connect, and support the continued development of the field. Our initial plans include:
- Developing a searchable member directory by location, language, areas of interest, and group participation
- Creating shared guidance around certifications
- Compiling a curated list of Clean Language resources
- Building a directory of Clean Language trainers and training programmes
As participation grows, further initiatives will emerge from within the community.

How your membership supports the Association At this stage, the primary focus is building and maintaining the Association’s core infrastructure, beginning with the website. Membership fees directly support this work and provide the foundation for visibility, connection, and shared resources. All ICLA roles are voluntary. No one is paid for their work for the Association, other than external contractors such as web developers. Donations are welcome for those who wish to contribute further to operating costs. In its early phases, membership represents a commitment to strengthening Clean Language as an international field. Activities and benefits will develop over time, shaped by those who choose to take part.
MEMBERSHIPS
You can be a Founding Member of ICLA! This option will only be available until September 30, 2026. You will be recognized as such and have a special place in the annals of ICLA and Clean Language. The Founding membership fee for 2026 is €250. Ordinary membership will cost €25 for the first year of operation. Memberships renew October 1st, and the membership fee will be pro-rated depending on when you join. We also gratefully accept donations if you want to contribute to our operating costs. No one is paid for their work for ICLA, except outside contractors like web developers. It will take some time to develop the activities and benefits to members. To start with, think of your contributions as an investment in Clean and the growth of a new global network.
